The main Hall at the Centre, where lectures and cultural gatherings are held, is named after William Saab (1912-1999), the founder’s father, who led a life rich in innovation and philanthropy in the fields of poetry, education, publishing, and national and social work. He wrote both classical and colloquial poetry and was inaugurated as ‘Zajal Laureate’ in 1940. Between 1933 and 1975, he published a journal dedicated to letters, colloquial poetry, and Antiochian immigration (from Syria, Lebanon and Palestine), which remains one of the most important and comprehensive sources on these subjects. He practised education as a teacher, school director, and founder of a school in Beirut. His private library, including the volumes of his journal, forms the core of this main hall.
أُطلِقَ على القاعة الرئيسية في المركز، حيث ستُعقَد بعض نشاطاته، اسم "قاعة وليم صعب" (1912-1999)، والد المؤسس، الذي عاش حياة غنية بالإبداع والعطاء في ميادين الشعر والتربية والصحافة والعمل الوطني والاجتماعي، وكتبَ الشعر الفصيح والشعبي، وبُويِعَ بإمارة الزجل اللبناني عام 1940. كما نَشَرَ، بين 1933 و1975، مجلة للآداب والشعر الشعبي والهجرة الأنطاكية (السورية واللبنانية والفلسطينية)، هي من أهم المصادر والمراجع وأوفاها حول هذه المواضيع. ومارَسَ التربية معلّماً ومديراً لمدارس وصاحب مدرسة في بيروت. تشكِّل مكتبته الخاصة، بما فيها مجلدات مجلته وأعدادها، نواة هذه القاعة.
