Protopresbyter Athanasios Gkikas

CURRICULUM VITAE

He was born in Lamia Fthiotidos in 1959, and lives in Thessaloniki.

Apart from his academic status and activity, which is analysed in detail below, he is a married clergyman and belongs (1983-today) to the Holy Diocese of Neapolis and Stavroupolis. He ministers, as Steward and Spiritual, of the Holy Share of Agios Charalambos, of I. M. Simonos Petra of Mount Athos, in Thessaloniki.

His pastoral activity includes a daily devotional program, the mystery of confession, catechesis and counselling for young people and teenagers, family counselling and dealing with problematic social situations. This activity is part of his research interests and constitutes, apart from its intellectual value, the content of scientific experience and training in the practical context of Pastoralism as a science. It feeds the formulation of the theory of the courses of Pastoral Care, Pastoral Psychology and Counselling as practical courses of theological studies, towards the training of students as teachers and especially of the candidates for clergy.

During his two-year educational leave in Great Britain (1986-1988) he ministered to the diaspora as vicar of the Greek Orthodox Community of Glasgow in Scotland, where he developed pastoral action for the Community's progress in its educational, social and spiritual goals.
