His Beatitude Patriarch IGNATIUS IV appointed His Grace Bishop GHATTAS Hazim Abbot of Balamand Patriarchal Monastery and Dean of the St John of Damascus Institute of Theology. Bishop GHATTAS was born in Mharde, Syria, in 1963. He graduated from the St John of Damascus Institute of Theology, and wrote a dissertation on "The Life of Metropolitan Gregorios Jebbara." As a priest, he served in the Archdiocese of Hama, especially in the cities of Hama and Mharde. He was also Abbot of St George Monastery in Mharde and Overseer of the Youth movement in the Archdiocese. His Grace was elected Bishop of Qara-Kalamoun and appointed Patriarchal Vicar in 1999. He was ordained to the Holy Episcopacy in 24/10/1999 in the Patriarchate's Holy Dormition Church. The Balamand community offers its best wishes to His Grace, praying to the Lord Jesus to keep him as a father and overseer for many years.
المطران غطاس هزيم رئيساً لدير سيّدة البلمند عيّن صاحب الغبطة البطريرك إغناطيوس الرابع سيادة الأسقف غطّاس هزيم رئيساً لدير البلمند وعميداً لمعهد اللاهوت. يذكر أن الأسقف غطاس من مواليد مدينة محردة عام 1963. نال شهادة اللاهوت من معهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي البلمند في لبنان. له رسالة عن "حياة المطران غريغوريوس جبارة". خدم في أبرشية حماة عموماً ورعيتا حماة ومحردة خصوصاً. تسلّم أيضاً رئاسة دير مار جرجس محردة، وكان مسوؤلاً عن الشبيبة في الأبرشية المذكورة. انتخب أسقفاً على أسقفية قارة - القلمون وعيّن وكيلا للبطريركية سنة 1999. وسيم في كنيسة رقاد السيّدة في البطريركية (دمشق) بتاريخ 24/10/1999. أسرة البلمند تتمنى لصاحب السيادة التوفيق في مهامه الجديدة، وتطلب من الرب يسوع أن يحفظه أباً ومرشداً إلى سنين عديدة.
