Archimandrite Jack Khalil participates in a conference in Antalya

In the morning session that marked the inauguration of the International Scientific Conference on "The Apostle Paul in Antalya: Memory, Testimony," Archimandrite Jack Khalil, Dean of the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology, presented a study that sheds light on the historical presence of the Apostle of Nations in the ancient city of Antalya.

Under the auspices of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and hosted by the Holy Metropolis of Pisidia, the conference, taking place from January 15 to 17, 2024, aims to delve into the Acts of the Apostles and explore the legacy of Apostle Paul, who traversed the lands of Pisidia, preaching in the historic cities of Perge and Attalia.

Archimandrite Jack Khalil's contribution to the conference, titled "Antioch - Pisidia to Attalia: Unveiling a Major Turning Point in the Gospel’s Path from Jews to Gentiles," significantly contributed to the conference's objectives. It delved into the arrival of apostles Paul and Barnabas in the regions of Pamphylia, Pisidia, and Lycaonia, examining their missionary work in the cities of these regions. This endeavor resulted in the establishment of churches, noteworthy for the substantial inclusion of Gentiles in some and the exclusive presence of Gentile believers in others. Leveraging earlier experiences, particularly individual conversions outlined in Acts 10:45 and the inclusion of Gentiles in Antioch—the birthplace of Christianity's expansion to embrace the Gentiles—Paul and Barnabas orchestrated a pivotal historical transition in southern Asia Minor. Their efforts led to the founding of 'churches of God,' distinguished by their exclusive composition of Gentile believers.

As the conference continues, scholars, theologians, and attendees eagerly anticipate further revelations and discussions that promise to deepen the comprehension of the Apostle of Nations' profound influence on Antalya's history and spiritual heritage.
