دانيال هانشو، مرجعية عالمية في العناية الملطّفة يزور البلمند
تلبيةً لدعوةٍ من العميد الأب بورفيريوس جرجي، وبالتعاون مع الدكتور ميشال ضاهر، أستاذ الجراحة في كليّة الطب في جامعة البلمند، استضاف معهد القدّيس يوحنّا الدمشقيّ اللاهوتيّ الأستاذ الجامعي والطبيب الدكتور دانيال هانشو من جامعة ميشيغان ومعهد القدّيس فلاديمير اللاهوتي الأرثوذكسي في نيويورك، في سلسلة محاضرات ألقاها تحت عنوان "العنايا الملطفة".
يشغل الدكتور هانشو منصب مدير ومؤسس اللجنة الإستشارية للرعاية الملطّفة في رابطة المحاربين القدامى، الإدارة الطبية(VAMC) في آن أربور ميشيغان، كما وتتركز أبحاثه السريرية على الرعاية في نهاية الحياة، والمعاناة الروحية في الأمراض المتقدمة، وكيفية استخدام الطب المكمّل لتخفيف الألم. كذلك قدّمَ الدكتور هانشو عدّة خدمات تطوعيّة في إعداد مأوى لرعاية المحتَضَرين في أوغندا وإثيوبيا وكذلك في رومانيا، حيث درّس كأستاذٍ زائر في جامعة ترانسيلفانيا في براشوف.
وبالعودة إلى سلسلة المحاضرات هذه، فقد تكوّنت من ثلاث محاضرات حملت العناوين التالية:
"المعضلة البشرية التي تشكلها المعاناة"
"الشخص المتألم والأشخاص الذين يقدمون الرعاية"
"الرعاية في نهاية الحياة وإمكانيّة الشفاء بغضّ النظر عن المداواة"
وتوزّعت على يومي الجمعة 27 شباط 2015 والسبت 28 شباط 2015.
حضر هذه السلسلة أطبّاء وكهنة وممرضات ومساعدون اجتماعيون، إضافة إلى طلاب معهد اللاهوت في البلمند وأساتذته ومجموعة من طلاّب الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت وزوّار من أنحاء قضاء الكورة وبيروت. وقد تميّزت هذه المحاضرات بالطابع الحواري أثناء وبعد كل محاضرة.
Daniel Hinshaw, a World Authority in Palliative Care, Visits Balamand
Upon the invitation of the Dean, Fr. Porphyrios Georgi, and in collaboration with Dr. Michel Daher, Professor of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Balamand, St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology welcomed Professor Daniel Hinshaw (M.D.), an expert in palliative care and a professor of the University of Michigan and the St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York. Dr. Hinshaw delivered several lectures on Palliative Care
Dr. Hinshaw works as a professor of surgery at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He is also the founding director of the Palliative Care Consultation Service at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His clinical research interests are focused on care at the end of life, spiritual distress in advanced illness, and the use of complementary medicine in the relief of pain. Dr. Hinshaw has provided volunteer services in hospice programs in Uganda and Ethiopia, as well as in Romania, where he has been a visiting professor at Transylvania University in Brasov.
The series of lectures that Dr. Hinshaw gave was about three sessions entitled as follows:
- The Human Dilemma Posed by Suffering
- The Nature of the Encounter between Suffering Persons and Caregivers
- End-of-Life Care and the Possibility of Healing Independent of Cure
The lectures were given in two days, February 27 and 28, 2015. In attendance were our Faculty of Theology students and professors, a group of students from the American University of Beirut, invited priests, medical doctors, nurses, social assistants and various guests from the El-Koura region and Beirut. The lectures were interactive and discussions enriched the participants.
